Why is Dyslexia A Gift?

The mental function that causes dyslexia is a gift in the truest sense of the word: a natural ability, a talent. It is something special that enhances the individual.

Dyslexics think primarily in pictures. This can be a great advantage when using imagination, or for figuring how how things work.  Many dyslexics excel in areas such as public speaking, art, math, music, drama, design, business and sports.

Dyslexics aren’t all the same, but they do share special traits:

  • They can utilize the brain’s ability to alter and create perceptions (the primary ability)

  • They are highly aware of their environment

  • They are curious about how things work

  • They think mainly in pictures instead of words

  • They are highly intuitive and insightful

  • They think and perceive multi-dimensionally (using all the senses)

  • They have vivid imaginations

Does this sound like you or someone you love? If so, you are in good company.

However, even though dyslexia is a gift, the problems associated with dyslexia can be a very real disability to adults and children if they are unresolved.  Skills such as basic literacy are essential to get along in today's world.  A dyslexic will likely encounter discrimination in education or employment. This can lead to low self esteem, behavioral problems and other related issues.  Living with dyslexia can be a struggle unless you are given the proper learning tools to know how to work with the gift.

Those learning tools do exist.

You can overcome the problems associated with Dyslexia.
